The Cherokee Strip was opened for settlement on September 16, 1893. Within the Cherokee Strip, Enid was founded on the same day. On September 17, 1893, the Right Reverend Frances Key Brooke, Episcopal Missionary Bishop to Oklahoma and The Indian Territories, conducted the first church service in Enid by celebrating the Holy Eucharist standing in a wagon. For 124 years, St. Matthew's has represented the Episcopal Branch of the Jesus Movement in Enid. Join us in Enid for the 81st Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma, hosted by St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, in celebration of the 125th anniversary of that first Eucharist. Click here to download the entire Convention Information Letter!
