Episcopal Safety Program

by The Rev. Richard Burris, Comptroller

We are pleased to announce that the Diocese has partnered with Church Insurance in providing insured congregations with individualized Parish safety assistance.

The diocese has appointed David Hume as Diocesan Safety Manager to work with you in developing a value added safety program designed to help protect your congregation’s people and property.  David is a communicant of St. Matthew’s, Enid.  He has been an independent insurance agent for thirty-four years and has extensive experience in property and casualty insurance.
The service is free of charge to you and is sponsored by our insurance carrier, Church Insurance Company of Vermont, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Church Pension Group.

The purpose of the program is to help churches provide a safer environment for members of the church to worship.  One of the principles behind the Episcopal Safety Program is that some basic steps can reduce the amount of risk that parishes face.  In most instances, recommendations will focus on basic changes to improve or enhance safety such as moving fire extinguishers, securing a handrail or removing loose carpet.

Moving forward, you will be contacted by David to arrange a time to meet and conduct a safety walkthrough of your church.  If you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment right away, David can be reached at 580-231-3250 and at david@hume.us.

By taking a proactive approach, we can work together to ensure that we maintain the highest standards of safety for people and property.  Through such thoughtful stewardship, we hope to prevent injuries before they occur.
